All the hype, none of the clarity. What really is yoga?
Whatever is it, let's hope it doesn't involve an incense laden, mat filled room with a wooden floor where a bendy thin woman asks you to do crazy postures only she seems to have mastered. (--see blog post).
In sankrit, a classical Indian language,Yoga means union; specifically Union with the divine. Yoga is nothing more and nothing less than that. There is a whole philosophy and way of being behind yoga that unites you with innate divinity as a way of being. Yoga is truly nothing if it only consists of you coming to the mat for an hour. It is a Soulful, united space of exsistence. To see or experience it as anything else cheats you of a beautiful experience.
Despite myself, I am a certified Vinyasa Yoga Teacher who has completed her 200hr teacher training.
Vinyasa Yoga is an ashtanga based system that links movement with breath. Every movement a teacher asks you to make will be accompanied with an invitation to inhale or exhale. The beauty of vinyasa is that you are always reminded to breathe. Breath is inspiration and light. Without it we would all perish. Thus, breathing is good!
I am a creative and playful teacher who usually sequences around lunar cycles, the seasons and occasional whimsy. (You never know what you're getting into with me-- but it's all part of the adventure). If you live in the Washington, DC Metro area and would like private sessions please contact me. Otherwise you can catch me at my studio of choice: Shakti.
